Supporting Parents

We offer parents a variety of training and skills programmes to help them support their children with school-work, to better understand the primary curriculum and general parenting support focusing on things like behaviour and overall homelife improvements.

Academic Support

Our staff have a broad portfolio of skills and experience, including primary teaching, training, tutoring, adult learning, coaching and counselling. As such we’re able to offer family learning courses in schools covering topics such as maths and English for KS1 and KS2, with parents learning alongside their children in a fun, relaxed manner.

All of our programmes are focussed on helping children and young people to build the important life and learning skills they’ll need to be successful. To sustain this learning beyond our programmes, enabling children’s skills and confidence to continue to grow, we know that supporting parents is the key.

Triple P Parenting

We know that parents want to create the happiest home life they can, and some may have a few concerns about their child’s behaviour – perhaps there’s disobedience or they simply want to find out how to set up better routines for mealtimes or bedtimes. Whatever it is, those who are interested to learn more about positive parenting and how you can apply it to their family can do so with us, in a safe, non-judgemental, fun and relaxed way, looking at parenting strategies that really work.

Proven to Work

Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme), is what’s known as an ‘evidence-based’ parenting programme. This means, it’s tried and tested and proven to work. Designed and created by clinical psychologists from Queensland University, Australia, Triple P has been running for over 30 years, and is used in countries across the world. We really believe in the programme and have seen huge success reported by many, many parents who have taken part in the programme with us. It’s practical, realistic and very useable. Parents go home with strategies to try out every week and see improvements very early on that grow and grow.

Delivery – What Happens in Triple P?

We offer Triple P as a 6 – 8 week programme, delivered weekly for 2 hours per week for parents of children aged 3 – 12 years. Groups of 5 – 10 parents work really well. We also offer 1:1 sessions as and when required. We have bolt-on strategies for teens too and plan to train our staff to deliver full Teen Triple P programmes too, very soon, if we’re able to raise the funds.

From the start, parents are given tips and suggestions to fit the needs of their family. They’ll see scenes from the Every Parent’s Survival Guide DVD, which show how the ideas work in real life. And the hand-outs will give parents the tools and information they need to start positive parenting right away at home.
